About the Music Academy
The Kristu Jayanti Music Academy (KJMA) was established in 2023 with the motive of identifying, refining and nurturing musical talents in the student body and in music enthusiasts. The academy aims to provide a platform for students to express their musical gifts, collaborate with fellow musicians, and engage in diverse musical genres. Through workshops, certifications, song recordings, vocal training, rehearsals and live performances, KJMA is committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive musical community within the university and beyond.

To build an inspired musical fraternity by fostering artistic growth, promoting creative collaboration, and providing students with world-class opportunities to experience and shape contemporary and classical musical traditions.
Mission
To provide students with a holistic musical education through rigorous practice, ensemble performances, and theoretical learning. We strive to cultivate disciplined musicianship, encourage original song productions, and enrich university life with uplifting musical celebrations that resonate nationally and internationally.
The Choir
The Kristu Jayanti Choir is a home of growth and learning for a blend of musicians, vocalists and producers. The choir consists of roughly from 110 students to 140 students on an average from all cultures, united by their one passion MUSIC. The choir comprises of up to seven parts of harmony. The Kristu Jayanti Choir has represented at the Regional, State and National level and has won at the National level multiple times. The choir regularly releases their productions on various platforms, and also has their own YouTube channel. Every year the choir is invited to various prestigious events such as, Magnificent, Glorious Gospel Festival, Resound to name a few.
Annual Musical Showcase - Woodrock
The Kristu Jayanti Music Academy held its annual concert on Friday, February 21, 2025. Fr. John P. J., Principal of Bhopal School of Social Sciences, was the guest of honour along with the esteemed fathers of Kristu Jayanti College. The concert featured a showcase of diverse repertoire, a 10-song performance by the choir, under the guidance and training of Mr. Ashok GP, Music Director, Kristu Jayanti Music Academy, and captivating showcases by bands, violinists, and other musicians. The event had two showcases, one at 11:00 AM and one at 3:00 PM, providing audiences with an enriching musical experience. The event successfully encouraged students to display their musical potential on a warm platform. The experience was unforgettable for each person involved in making the event possible.
The Kristu Jayanti Music Academy (KJMA) in association with the Literary and Cultural Association (LCA) hosted Woodrock 2023: Jayantian Jubilee Symphony with an enchanting theme of ‘Arte Della Musica’ on November 10, 2023.
This year’s Woodrock was significant as it made its mark during the Silver Jubilee (25th) year since the establishment of Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous, Bengaluru. The event began with a welcome speech by Samuel K. (Student coordinator, KJMA) in the presence of Fr.Dr. Augustine George (Principal); Fr. Emmanuel P.J. (Director, College of Law) Fr. Jais V. Thomas (Financial Administrator) and Fr. Deepu Joy (Student Welfare Officer). KJMA’s choristers and musicians delivered an amazing performance, which included a mix of various Carnatic, Contemporary, Broadway, Rock, and Western classical pieces.
Western classical pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were performed for the first time this year in Woodrock. The intricate and invigorating pieces were presented under the expertise of Mr. Ashok G P, Music Director, KJMA, and Mr. Godwin Paul, Co-Music Director, KJMA. The delivery became even more ethereal with the association of Kristu Jayanti Dance Academy (KJDA), alongside the artistic touch of the Fine Arts Club, the sublime emceeing of the Anchors Association, and the amazing tech team along with the media team. A set of talented bands creatively indulged the audience in an exquisite experience with their subpar renditions of songs. The active reciprocity of energy by the audience was also noteworthy. Tisa Thomson (Student Coordinator, KJMA) gave the vote of thanks. The event concluded with the presentation of a video with snippets of Woodrock 2023.
Music Through the Ages
The Kristu Jayanti Music Academy hosted its inaugural certification course in music history titled "Music through the Ages." Commencing shortly after its inauguration on February 16, 2024, the event was presided over by Fr. Deepu Joy, Director of the Student Welfare Office, and Dr. Calistus Jude, Dean of Academic. Mr. Ashok G P, Music Director, KJMA, served as the resource person for the course, offering a wealth of knowledge to the participants. Students had the opportunity to delve into various musical eras spanning from ancient times to the modern era. Despite time constraints, Mr. Ashok successfully imparted nearly 3000 years of music history to the participants. Classes were held five days a week for about two months, concluding on March 12, 2024.
"A Concise History of Music: Music through the Ages"
The book "Music through the Ages" offers a comprehensive overview of the evolution of music from its ancient roots to contemporary times. It delves into various musical genres, styles, and movements, highlighting key composers, performers, and significant developments that has shaped music history.

Delving into the Middle Ages, this chapter examines the development of sacred and secular music, including Gregorian chant, the emergence of polyphony, and the music of troubadours and trouvères.
Chapter 3: Renaissance Music (c. 1400-1600)
Highlighting the cultural rebirth of the Renaissance, this chapter discusses the golden age of choral music, the rise of instrumental music, and notable composers like Josquin des Prez and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.
Chapter 4: Baroque Music (c. 1600-1750)
Exploring the opulent Baroque era, this chapter covers the birth of opera, the development of major musical forms like the concerto and fugue, and the contributions of composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, and Antonio Vivaldi.
Chapter 5: Classical Music (c. 1750-1820)
Focusing on the clarity, balance, and formal structures of the Classical period, this chapter examines the symphony, sonata, and string quartet, as well as the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Joseph Haydn, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
Chapter 6: Romantic Music (c. 1820-1900)
Covering the emotional expression and individualism of the Romantic era, this chapter explores the rise of programmatic music, nationalism in music, and the works of composers like Franz Schubert, Frédéric Chopin, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Chapter 7: 20th and 21st-Century Music
Highlighting the diversity and innovation of the modern and contemporary eras, this chapter discusses various movements including Impressionism, Expressionism, serialism, minimalism, electronic music, and the integration of global musical traditions.

EUPHONIA - National Level Inter-Collegiate Music Fest
The Literary and Cultural Association in collaboration with Kristu Jayanti Music Academy hosted Euphonia 2025, a national intercollegiate music fest, hosted nine dynamic events: Classical Solo, Eastern Solo, Western Solo, Eastern Group, Western Group, Rap and Beatbox, Solo Instrumental, and Battle of the Bands, drawing participation from 112 students. In total, 21 colleges joined us in this celebration of rhythm, harmony, and artistic expression.
