Established in 2002, the Department of Life Sciences was founded on a vision to provide comprehensive, high-quality education across the life sciences. At the Department, curiosity meets discovery — we bring together diverse domains of the discipline through hands-on learning, state-of-the-art laboratories, active research, and strong industry engagement.
Recognizing the sector's growing role in employment generation and the rising demand for skilled professionals, the department offers undergraduate programmes in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Botany; postgraduate programmes in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Bioinformatics; and PhD programmes in allied disciplines.
Note: BSc programmes followed a triple-major structure from 2002 to 2020. From 2020 onward, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP), the curriculum transitioned to a dual-major format, offered across four different subject combinations.

Head, Department of Life Sciences
Welcome to the Department of Life Sciences. It gives me immense pleasure to share our vision with students, parents, and all stakeholders who place their trust in our academic community.
Our department believes in a student-centered teaching–learning approach that blends strong conceptual foundations with hands-on experience. We strive to create a learning environment where curiosity is encouraged, questions are welcomed, and knowledge is applied meaningfully. Through innovative teaching practices, modern laboratory exposure, and experiential learning, we ensure that students learn not only from textbooks but also from real-world situations.
We are deeply committed to the academic excellence, personal growth, and career readiness of our students. Our dedicated faculty mentor students closely, helping them develop critical thinking, research aptitude, ethical values, and confidence. Equal emphasis is given to academics, skills, sustainability, and social responsibility.
Through our bioskill studio, biopreneur initiatives, internships, industry partnerships, research projects and startup support, we seek to bridge the gap between education and employability.
